We left Kathmandu at 5am on the 4th September for the long drive to Kodari ( the last Nepalese town ) Quite an adventure on the roads as our bus driver negotiated landslides , mud ruts and large trucks on a one way road with thousand foot drop offs. Crossing the Friendship Bridge was on foot, we walked into China ! Customs did a thorough check on our bags , all good. Hiked up to the waiting bus for the rest of our drive to Nayalam.
Checked into the Snowland Lodge – great rooms with REAL beds , hot shower and western loos !
Callin Outside the Snowland Lodge , Naylam, 3,700m
Team dinner at the Snowland restaurant. Lots of rice, veggies, some kind of meat dish – could be chicken , maybe Yak !
Took a short hike in the afternoon , out for about one hour then back to rest ! Leave Nayalam tomorrow morning for the drive to Tingri , 4,400m , will be staying in Tingri two nights to acclimatize then on to Chines Base Camp at 4,900m. Going to be busy at base camp , heard there are around 50 – 60 other expedition groups on Cho this autumn so expect to see lots of tents, equipment, yaks, sherpas , climbers around.
